Program Information

Philosophy:

This program is designed to expose your child to the sounds, vocabulary, and music of the Spanish language. It's purpose is to lay the foundation of Spanish language learning in years to come.

Curriculum:

The lessons are designed into thematic units (such as body parts, food, animals, etc). Each unit will be centered around a well-known children's story and a song. We will practice our new vocabulary with manipulative materials and games.

Methodology:

This program is based on the idea that deeper learning takes place when the lessons are fun and the material is comprehensible. The curriculum is based on familiar children's literature and music. Each parent will be given a list of the books that we will be covering in the lessons. It is suggested that you read these books in English with your child prior to the lesson so that they are familiar with the story and can focus on learning new vocabulary.

Teachers:

· Keli Calderon: I am a certified bilingual teacher in the state of Texas. I have taught bilingual 3rd-5th grade, Newcomers (recent immigrants), and English as a Second Language for the last 10 years, mostly in Plano. I am very familiar with the language acquisition process and hold a Master's Degree in Education. I am not a native speaker but, most native speakers are surprised when they hear this. I am told that I have nearly no English accent and I believe that this is due to beginning to learn Spanish at a young age. Learning Spanish as a second language has allowed me to become familiar with the difficulties on the learning process and find ways to help others deal with them.
